Med City FC Joins the NPSL

Editor December 21, 2016

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Med City FC (Rochester, MN) has joined the league as an expansion team.  The club will compete in the Midwest Region’s North Conference.

“Minnesota has quickly become a stronghold of the NPSL,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “We are excited to gain new fans and supporters through the state.  We’re expecting big things from Med City FC and all of our teams there.  This is another big day for American soccer.”

Frank Spaeth will lead the club as general manager.

Spaeth has loads of experience, having worked in the front office of the Rochester Thunder, a soccer team that played two seasons in the PDL in 2009 and 2010, as well as serving as the assistant general manager for Minnesota Chill, a professional volleyball team that was based in Rochester, Minnesota in 2001 and 2002. Spaeth’s other sports-related experience includes working for nearly three years as a sports program manager for Special Olympics Minnesota. He has been a soccer player, coach, and administrator at the club, high school, and collegiate levels.

“We’d like to get ourselves established in the community and create a good product that improves as the years go by,” Spaeth added. “We want to create a team consisting of the best players in southeast Minnesota, combined with players from around the country and the world, that will offer excitement to the Rochester community and give young players in our area strong role models.”

More information about the club can be found by following the club on Facebook (@rochestermedcitystars), Twitter (@medcityfc), and Instagram (@medcityfc).  The team’s website can be found at www.medcityfc.com.

“We chose the NPSL because we think the league structure is set up well and we liked the league’s constantly growing reputation,” Spaeth concluded. “We also like the fact that our conference is so regional in scope and offers many opportunities for us to create great area and regional rivalries.”
