Mount Union’s men’s soccer team blanked Thiel College 5-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders advance to 6-3 on the year as the Tomcats fall to 2-7.
Freshman Brendan Luebbering struck first for the Raiders when he found the back of the net off a corner kick from fellow freshman Carter Dunn.
Senior Jack Weber scored next for the Raiders off a free kick 25 yards out barrying it in the upper 90 advancing the score to 2-0 in the first half.
Freshman Trever Wendel scored in the 49:59 mark off a pass from Dunn advancing the score to 3-0 to start the second half.
On another free kick, freshman Aaron Liezert shot a ball that was blocked by the goalie then cleaned up by sophomore Nathan Tirabassi who found the back of the net at the 80:51 mark extending the lead to 4-0.
The Purple Raiders added to the lead when freshman Jacob Dunn connected on a cross from Tirabassi leading to the final score of 5-0.
Freshman Brian Strawser earned his first college career shutout for the Raiders making 5 saves giving him 18 on the season as Mount Union outshot the Tomcats 19-7.
Mount Union begins Ohio Athletic Conference action when they take on Capital Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 pm at Mount Union Stadium.
