Mount Union’s men’s soccer team dropped its season opener 5-0 to Case Western Reserve Tuesday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Spartans (1-0) opened up the game early on a goal by Michael Balog at the 16:34 mark to give them the early 1-0 lead.
Case Western Reserve tacked on another goal at the 22:36 mark on the foot of Chris Cvecko and added one more before halftime on a free kick by Paul Darmstadter in the 40th minute to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead going into the locker room.
The Spartans kept finding the back of the net as they added two more goals to their lead. Darmstadter scored his second goal of the night in the 60th minute and Matthew Zembas capped the game off with a goal in the 70th minute.
Mount Union (0-1) next travels to Pitt-Greensburg for a game Friday, September 4 at 5 pm.
