Mount Union’s men’s soccer team defeated Franklin 3-2 for its first win of the season Saturday in Franklin, Indiana.
Senior Colin Combs gave the Purple Raiders (1-1) an early 1-0 lead as he scored off a feed from sophomore Kevin Blackley in the fourth minute.
Blackley extended the Mount Union lead with an unassisted goal in the 27th minute and the Raiders took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Franklin (1-2) cut the lead in half with a Bradon Laria goal 34 seconds into the second half and the score remained 2-1 until a frantic final three minutes.
Mount Union appeared to put the game away with a goal from freshman Aaron Liezert to make the score 3-1 at the 87:40 mark, but 31 seconds later Franklin scored to get back to within a goal at 3-2 before the Raiders closed out the final minute for the win.
Mount Union stays in Indiana as it will play Transylvaia (Ky.) tomorrow at 1 pm at Franklin.
