The Mount Union men’s soccer team beat Wooster 1-0 Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (1-2) went head-to-head with Wooster (1-1-1) in the first half, but neither team was able to tally a point in the first 45 minutes of play. Mount Union senior goalkeeper Dylan Lias (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) recorded one save; Wooster goalkeeper Scot Stacho recorded two.
The Purple Raiders saw the team’s first goal of the season in the 57th minute of the game when junior Scott Welker (Solon/Solon) found the back of Wooster’s net off of a pass from junior Stephen Dages (Uniontown/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary). With the help of Raiders defenders, Wooster was unable to score and Lias recorded the shutout.
The Raiders next play on Saturday, Sept. 10 against Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) at 1 p.m. in Washington, Pa.
