The Mount Union men’s soccer team opened conference play with a 1-0 loss to #12 Ohio Northern Saturday night.
The Purple Raiders (1-4-3, 0-1) took 5 shots in the first half compared to Ohio Northern’s (11-0-1, 1-0) 11, none of which found the back of either teams’ net. Senior goalkeeper Dylan Lias (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) recorded four saves on the half, leading the teams into halftime with the game tied at zero.
Both teams continued attacking their opponent’s goal, but the game remained scoreless until late in the second half. In the 82nd minute of the game, Ohio Northern’s Chris Garbig tallied the first and only goal off of a rebounded ball 20 yards away from the Purple Raiders’ net.
Ohio Northern out-shot Mount Union 23-7 on the night.
The Purple Raiders next travel to Berea, Ohio on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to play Baldwin Wallace in the team’s second OAC matchup.
