The entire Galaxy organization has to be up in arms with the prospect of losing both David Beckham and Landon Donovan. It seems like a disastrous situation for the L.A. club.
Could this all be a blessing? It might be if the rumors regarding Michael Owen are true. The L.A. Times and other reputable sources confirm the Galaxy’s interest in the Newcastle striker. Owen would bring instant credibility to MLS as he would be the first European star to come to America in his prime. At the age of 29, Owen would play his best years here in America. Owen would surely encourage other European stars to make the journey to MLS.
Who else should be on the Galaxy’s wish list? Chelsea’s Didier Drogba would be a nice fit. What about Robbie Keane? The Liverpool striker reportedly has suffered a falling out with manager Rafael Benitez. Let them bring Zinedine Zidane out of retirement as well. They shouldn’t stop there. What about Brazil’s Ronaldo and Ronaldinho?
The Galaxy should have a new rallying cry: “Remember the Cosmos!” They should learn from the NASL and bring the world’s best back to America, sparking a soccer revolution. Imagine the Horseshoe, the Rose Bowl, the Colisseum filled to capacity to watch the unexpected: soccer.
