Captain Named
Long-serving defender Ben Austin has been named as Eastbourne Borough’s club captain for the forthcoming season.
The 33-year-old arrived at Priory Lane in June 2000 from neighbours Eastbourne Town and has won numerous accolades in his decade at the club, including supporters’ and manager’s player of the year last season. Austin, a PE teacher, has made 406 appearances for Borough and succeeds Paul Armstrong, who joined Whitehawk in the summer.
Fellow defender Gary Elphick is the club’s new vice-captain. Elphick, 24, is starting his second season at Priory Lane having joined from Havant and Waterlooville in May 2009.
Eastbourne Borough midfielder Dan Brown demonstrated his ‘keepy-uppy’ skills, winning a competition organised by the Football Conference’s main sponsors, betting firm Blue Square.
