The Mount Union men’s soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2013 season to tournament host No. 18 Carnegie Mellon 1-0 on Saturday evening.
Carnegie Mellon’s Matt Sarett goal in the 17th minute of the match stood as the only goal in the match.
Freshman Kevin Blackley’s shot struck the crossbar, was rebounded by Coty Lipply who then attempted with a header but the Tartans keeper Jacob Rice was there to make the stop six minutes into the second period.
Tom Beck made a threat at the net in the final minute of play but was unable to capitalize against a strong Tartan defense.
Alex Bable again got the start for the Raiders, as he faced 24 shots from the Tartans and had nine saves on the night.
The Purple Raiders (1-1) look to bounce back next weekend (Sept. 7-8) when they host the Mount Union Invitational. They open against Defiance College at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 7 at Mount Union Stadium.
