Two Purple Raiders chipped in goals as the Mount Union women’s soccer team defeated Oberlin 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Bethany (W.Va.) College’s opening weekend tournament.
The first goal of the 2013 season for the Raiders went to freshman Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary)who scored her first of her collegiate goal at the 37:42 mark of the first half.
Shannon Evans (Newbury/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) would find Balzano who then chipped it over the goalie to put Mount Union up 2-0 in the second. Allison Fouss (Lowell/Marietta) would give the Raiders their third and final goal of the game at the 82:55 mark of the second half.
Getting the start in the net for the Raiders was Maria Favorite (Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) who saw no shots from the Yeowomen, as Mount Union out shot Oberlin 13-0 earning her the shutout.
The Purple Raiders (1-0) are back in action tomorrow against host Bethany at 1:00 p.m.
