Nashville United Joins the NPSL for the 2020 Season

Editor March 19, 2020

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Nashville United (Nashville, TN) has joined the league as an expansion team.  The club will begin competition in the East Region’s Southeast Conference in 2020.

“We are very excited to launch another team in Tennessee with the addition of Nashville United,” NPSL Managing Director Cindy Spera said. “Tennessee and the Southeast Conference will always have a special place in the history of the NPSL.  We are looking forward to Nashville United adding to that history and that tradition of excellence.”

Nashville United is led by President Brandon Whitsett and Head Coach Alan O’Connor.

Whitsett, who is 35 years old, is the CEO and President of Armature Construction Group.  He played in the VfB Stuttgart youth system and at St. Leo University.

O’Connor, who hails from Dublin, Ireland, is an experienced ex-player and coach with an understanding of the soccer landscape at the youth and adult level.  He is the current Director of Coaching at Nashville United Soccer Academy.  He has an excellent track record at the NPSL level, having made the playoffs with Inter Nashville FC the past three seasons.  O’Connor holds a U.S. Soccer “B” license.

“We chose the NPSL because we feel it is a very good level and appreciate the structure,” Whitsett said. “The league provides a platform for us to showcase local talent and bring opportunity to college, youth, and experienced players that still aspire to play at a higher level.”

Nashville United was founded in the 1970’s.  The club has won national championships throughout the years with the most recent coming in 2018 as the Over 30’s were crowned USASA National Champions.

Home matches for Nashville United will be played at Richard Siegel Park Stadium.

“Nashville United will be a great addition to the league,” NPSL Director of Membership Development Dina Case concluded. “We look forward to them continuing their growth on and off the field as they transition into the NPSL.  Nashville soccer fans should be excited to see a strong crosstown rivalry develop between Inter Nashville and Nashville United.  This is something great for both amateur soccer and the NPSL.”
