The New England Mutiny have announced the signing of Tiffany Weimer for the remainder of the 2012 Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Elite League season, pending U.S. Soccer approval. Weimer recently completed the Danish Elitedivisionen season with Fortuna Hjorring, helping to team to finish second and qualify for the Champion’s League with a recent 3-0 victory over league champion Bronby.

Weimer was a four-year standout at Penn State University, scoring 91 goals – the most in Big Ten Conference history. She was a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy runner up and a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American, leading Penn State to two NCAA College Cup appearances.

On the international scene, Weimer earned six caps with the U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team, including an appearance at the 2006 Nordic Cup Semifinals. In 2008 she played with Aland United of Finland’s top-flight Naisten Liiga before moving to Brazil to play for Santos F.C. In 2010 Weimer played a half season with Sweden’s AIK of the top-flight Damallsvenskan.

Closer to home, Weimer played against New England in 2007, with WPSL rivals SoccerPlus CT, where she was named WPSL East Player of the Year. In 2009 she was a third-round WPS selection by FC Gold Pride, playing in the team’s inaugural season and assisting on their first ever goal. Weimer moved to the Boston Breakers for part of the 2010 season before transferring to AIK.
In 2011 she returned to North America with the Vancouver Whitecaps, where she scored seven goals and notched four assists in 14 games. At New England Weimer will be reunited with two of her Whitecaps teammates – midfielder Kelsey Hood and defender Ciara McCormack.

“We are ecstatic to have Tiffany join us for the remainder of the season,” said New England Mutiny owner Joe Ferrara. “She is here and ready to go. Unfortunately, we need to play a little waiting game as she needs clearance by the U.S. Soccer Federation before playing in a sanctioned league match.”

“I’m looking forward to joining the Mutiny for the rest of the season and working with the coaches and players who have already put in a lot the last two months,” said Weimer. “I’m also excited to play for a team that has a long-standing history in WPSL while playing with and against some of the top players in the country.”

New England will conclude their four-game road trip this Wednesday, June 20, when they travel to face the Boston Breakers. The Mutiny return home on Sunday, June 24, when they host the Western New York Flash at East Longmeadow H.S. (5:00 PM kick-off).

The next three home matches for the Mutiny will be against all three former Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) teams: WNY, Boston and Chicago Red Stars. With the “Pro Flex Pack” ticket option, fans can see all three games plus get a FREE stadium chair back.
