Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year. NSCAA All-American. Those are just two of a list of honors and awards Christopher Brennan, the junior from Copley High School, has won and been recognized for. Now, Christopher has yet another achievement to add to his resume after being selected to participate in the Shale Soccer Classic presented by Admiral Sports.

The highly touted Ohio soccer star Christopher Brennan who has ambitions of playing Division I soccer and hopefully being privileged to one day play in the MLS, talks about what the biggest accomplishments of his young career been thus far.

“The relationships, and getting to know my teammates personally, and always being with them for so long. That’s really what was the highlight for me this season. I’m very honored and blessed with all the awards, but that’s not possible without the hard work, dedication, and help of my teammates and my coaches.”

Brennan is well skilled at taking on players 1 v 1, a talent he says he learned by watching Brazilian star Neymar. When the Ohio native plays forward he looks to base his game off of Alvaro Morata, the Spanish striker who currently play for Italian club Juventus.

Christopher’s junior season ended in disappointment after his high school team was defeated in the state semi-finals. With one season left on his high school career, Christopher and his team have a chance at redemption in bringing home a state trophy to Copley HS.

“My immediate goal going into this high school year would be a state championship; it’s’ the only thing on my mind. My teammates and I have that common goal, and that’s what we’re working for.”

Before Christopher’s final season, he has another big game coming close on the calendar, the Shale Soccer Classic. Christopher was honored by his selection and mentioned he was looking forward to the chance to play with other athletes around the nation. The July match will give the soon to be senior Christopher Brennan a chance to showcase his talent and skills against, and alongside high school students from around the country, and students only weeks away from becoming full-time college athletes.

A mid-summer game will not affect Christopher as he is always playing the sport, even out of season. Christopher is privileged to play every day with his younger brother, and the kids his mother baby sits, but what Christopher enjoys most is playing with the people he knows best, his teammates.

“I just love going to the high school, our turf is open all the time so I’m able to go whenever I want and just always try and get better. Often I will go with buddies and teammates of mine, having them there makes me want to be better for them. It’s hard to succeed in a game on your own, you really need all your teammates, so if I’m working as hard as I can to make them better, and they’re working as hard as they can to make me better. Everyone is getting better and we’re going to win some games, and that is what’s most important.”

Christopher Brennan will have one more year to play with to play with his group of friends, and several more weeks of preparation for the Shale Soccer Classic. The the possibilities of Division I and maybe professional play looms for the young athlete in his bright and upcoming future.
