Pocono Snow Hire Sheska as New Head Coach

Editor December 13, 2012

The Pocono Snow Soccer Club are delighted to announce the signing of local coaching legend Jerry Sheska as their new head coach, effective immediately.

The former East Stroudsburg University men’s and women’s soccer head coach brings with him a wealth of experience and success. The Snow are hopeful that he will bring the area’s only 4th Divison soccer team the success that it has craved since the club’s inception in 2008.

“Having Jerry as our head coach should allow us to now recruit and field a quality, formidable team that can be one of the best in our league,” mentioned Pocono Snow President Pat Mullally. “This is exciting for all Pocono Snow fans.”

Coach Sheska, who assumed head coaching duties at the Pocono Snow Board meeting earlier this month, will look to lead a Pocono Snow squad that has improved since their first season in 2008, finishing 4th out of 6 in 2012, and take them to a new level in the ultra-competitive NPSL Northeastern Region–Keystone Conference.

“I am very excited about coaching the Snow this upcoming season,” stated Sheska.  “Having coached for many years and having had some time off, I’m certainly ready for a new challenge.  I look forward to leading the Snow in this new chapter of my career.”

Coach Sheska brings with him 29 years of experience, as well as 15 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships coaching the ESU men’s soccer team.  His teams combined for a 424-156-32 overall record in close to three decades and an impressive average record of 15-5-1 over that time.

Coach Sheska also started and coached the ESU women’s teams for three consecutive seasons, beginning with their inaugural season of 1992, and led the ESU women to their first PSAC Championship in 1994, his final season with the women’s team.  His overall record with the ESU women was 39-10-2, and an average record of 13-3-1.

Aside from his achievements in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, Coach Sheska’s success reaches into both regional and national realms.  He led his Warrior men’s soccer teams to 16 NCAA playoff appearances and a trip to the Final Four in 2000.  Sheska has also coached over 20 All-Americans during his 29 seasons at ESU and also has had over 20 of his players turn professional.

The Pocono Snow and their new leader Coach Jerry Sheska, will soon be announcing tryout dates for their 2013 season, which will run from May–July.  Further information will be made available in the upcoming weeks.
