Eastbourne Borough have the chance to make amends for Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Tamworth when they host Hayes and Yeading United on Tuesday night (August 17). Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
It will be the first competitive match at Priory Lane since Borough’s dramatic win over Oxford United on April 24, which preserved their Blue Square Bet Premier status. Groundstaff have worked hard over the summer to prepare the pitch for the season ahead and home fans will be streaming through the turnstiles hoping for the right result.
Borough’s 2010-11 campaign did not begin the way they would have wanted at Tamworth. Having conceded three goals in the first half hour, new Sports signing Richard Pacquette opened his account with a header on 49 minutes to reduce the arrears, but the Lambs added a fourth midway through the second half, with Gary Elphick netting a consolation on 83 minutes. Hayes and Yeading won their opening match, 2-1 against newly-promoted Bath City, thanks to two goals from on-loan Peterborough striker Ben Wright. Borough will be keen to bounce back immediately in this clash of two old friends from Conference South days. In fact, their record against Hayes and Yeading United – and the two clubs in their pre-merger days – is immaculate. Garry Wilson’s side have never tasted defeat against Hayes, Yeading or the merged club in 14 matches.
