Rawnsley Named Mitre National Player of the Week

Editor June 17, 2016

CD Aguiluchos USA forward Simon Rawnsley has been selected as the 11th Mitre National Player of the Week for the 2016 NPSL season. This is the second time that he has received this honor this season.

Rawnsley has continued his run of great form, finishing with two goals and two assists against Sacramento Gold FC.  He has seven goals over the last two matches, including a season-high five goals against Real San Jose.  He is among the league leaders in goals with 17, which includes one goal scored in the U.S. Open Cup.

“Simon has been a key player for the team,” CD Aguiluchos USA Chairman Roger Amaya commented. “He’s very focused on what he wants and as a team we are happy that we can count on the fact that his great quality of play improves every day. We’re hoping that things go our way so we can close out our season in the best way possible.”

Rawnsley has a plethora of experience in the U.S. and abroad.  He played collegiate soccer with the University of Southern Indiana before playing indoors with the Evansville Crush.  In 2014 he played for Mezcala SC in the San Francisco Soccer Football League (SFSFL), helping the club win the league title and winning the Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals.
Rawnsley has also played for Bradford City, Halifax Town, Bradford Park Avenue, and Kendal Town in the United Kingdom.

This is obviously not the first honor for the English striker as he also earned Mitre National Player of the Week honors and the PUMA Golden Boot award in 2015.

An up-and-coming coach, Rawnsley currently serves as the Bladium West Ham United International Academy and Pre-Academy Manager.  He has already earned several coaching badges, including the West Ham United Academy Coaching Diploma and the NSCAA National Diploma.

“I’m really pleased with the team’s recent performances,” Rawnsley added. “We’ve been playing well and creating a lot of chances. It’s good to be building momentum going into the playoffs. I’m very grateful for the award and to all the people involved with the NPSL. I want to give a big thanks to the staff and my teammates at CD Aguiluchos USA for all their hard work and dedication.”

The Mitre National Player of the Week is announced every Friday during the regular season. The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country.
