Jesse Kehoe scored a goal in each half as Real San Jose opened the 2013 NPSL regular season with a 2-0 road win versus newcomers CD Aguiluchos USA on a rain soaked pitch in Oakland on Mach 30.
“They were both lucky,” laughed Kehoe when asked about his game-winning strikes. Neither of which, however, could be considered “lucky.”
After fairly even early exchanges, RSJ began to take control midway through the first half by keeping quick CDA runs in check. Finallyin the 35th minute, Kehoe calmly took advantage of a goalmouth scramble by scoring from close range at an angle.
RSJ sealed the match in the 80th when Mike Dyer sent Kehoe free behind the CDA defense about 25 yards out. That was all the third year RSJ star needed as he clinically finished with a precision shot inside the back post.
“Naturally we are thrilled with starting the new season with a win, especially a road win,” said RSJ manager Nick Arellano. “The guys played with a high work rate for the vast majority of the match and were clearly deserving of the three points.”
Real San Jose starts their 2013 NPSL home schedule on April 6 at Yerba Buena High School. The San Francisco Stompers will be in town for a 7:00 pm kickoff. General admission tickets are $8 and 2013 club memberships are available at the team website and at the game.
