The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that Southern California Sports Club (San Bernardino, CA) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the West Region’s Southwest Conference.
“We are thrilled to have a team in the San Bernardino area,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “The West Region has experienced massive growth this offseason and this addition will be welcomed by our fans and supporters. We are expecting big things from this ownership group thanks to their incredible credentials and international network.”
Home matches will take place at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex (SBSC), a 47-acre facility with 17 top-quality playing fields and countless amenities. The complex has served as the site for the USYSA Regional Championship as well as headquarters for state and national cups, the Tide Cup, and Olympic Development Program training.
SoCal SC will be led by Dave Elmore and Daniel Gamba.
Elmore founded the Elmore Sports Group in 1969 as a vehicle for sports entertainment. Since 1991, he has served on the Joint Committee of the National Association of Professional Baseball, working with other owners to find solutions that plague minor and major league teams. Baseball America has hailed Elmore as a unique leader among minor league team owners.
Gamba, who serves as the CEO of the Professional Sports Network, has been diligently related to the soccer world at a personal level since childhood, having played for several youth clubs of professional teams in Brazil and Argentina and at the collegiate level in the United States. For the past 12 years he has been involved professionally at a management level.
“We are looking forward to bringing top-level professional soccer to the Inland Empire region, starting a new local legacy in terms of player development,” Gamba added. “With our global approach, we will be adding a South American flavor to the local talented pool of players, putting together an elite program for young athletes seeking for an opportunity to showcase their skills. Our main focus will be on player development, applying a similar training methodology and philosophy used at top clubs in countries like Brazil and Argentina.”
Over the last 30 years, the Elmore Sports Group has owned and operated a variety of minor league sports franchises across the United States, from baseball to hockey to soccer and even arena football. Although the Elmore Sports Group focus have been mainly in baseball, the group has formed a partnership with Daniel Gamba so they can collectively explore key opportunities in soccer. The Southern California Sports Club (SCSC) is a product of this partnership and the second team that they will own together. Furthermore, the group is seeking to strengthen its over 20 years of ties with the local Inland Empire community as the Elmore Sports Group already owns a class A minor league baseball team in the region, being the operator of the local stadium as well.
“Our club is located in the center of one of the richest diverse zones in the United States and within the heart of the Hispanic/Latino community: the city of San Bernardino,” Gamba added. “There wouldn’t be a better place to start our project other than at a league like the NPSL, which provides all the necessary tools and opportunities for clubs like ours to start our journey in professional sports.”
