International Soccer Network, LLC (ISN) is proud to announce Andrew Hoggarth as the 2012 ISN Coach of the Year Presented by Korrio. Hoggarth is the current manager of AFC Cleveland and the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Thiel College of Greenville, PA. “Andy is a model coach that inspires others to be great on and off the pitch,” ISN Editor Gary L. Moody Jr. stated. “I can’t think of a better candidate for this award. He has done things

Trio Returns to AFC Cleveland

This week AFC Cleveland announced the return of three fan favorites: forward Vinny Bell, midfielder David Murrow, and defender Sean Sikich. Bell was the team’s leading attacker in 2012 with 6 goals and 4 assists. His strength and speed paced  the Royals’ offense, but his versatility allowed him to also play in the midfield and defense when needed. Bell, a Parma Heights native, was the only two-time NSCAA All-American in Case Western Reserve’s history.  He was also a two-time UAA

A New Era for Akron Men’s Soccer

After a dominating 1-0 defeat of Michigan on Tuesday night, attention quickly turned to an even bigger announcement at the University of Akron the next day. Jared Embick was given the reins of the Akron men’s soccer program on December 15, thanks to the departure of Caleb Porter to MLS.  Embick was rumored to be the favorite for the job since Porter decided he was leaving for the pros.  He would be given a three-year contract, a real commitment to

AFC Cleveland Gets First Win in Franchise History

AFC Cleveland came away with an exciting 4-2 victory over the visiting FC Buffalo Friday night. “Any time, any season the first win is vital,” AFC Cleveland manager Andy Hoggarth commented. “But the first win in franchise history is massive.” The attack was balanced as four different AFC Cleveland players found the back of the net. Case Western Reserve striker Vinny Bell opened the scoring for the home side in the 41st with a successful PK attempt. “We ‘ve been down both

AFC Cleveland Land Draw on the Road

A goal by Case Western Reserve striker Vinny Bell was enough to earn AFC Cleveland a 1-1 draw with Detroit City FC Saturday night. It was Cleveland’s first ever regular season match and first ever road match. Detroit opened the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute by Stefan St. Louis. Bell’s strike in the 34th brought things even at 1-1. Cleveland goalkeeper Ben Yabrow was called upon several times to deny the home team’s attack, landing two spectacular saves

The Case for Caleb Porter

I had a lot of thoughts come to mind when writing this article to support Caleb Porter.  First and foremost, I wanted to tap into the positives of his career and all he has done for the University of Akron and the American game as a whole. My initial thought was to attack the critical comments made by our colleagues in the soccer media.  There were two problems with this. It would bring back a lot of the negativity that
