This past weekend, seventeen soccer players from the Louisville Lightning soccer program combined with the Louisville Soccer Alliance (LSA) to help earn the Men’s Open Championship and bragging rights among all Region II teams. The Cincinnati Kings professional indoor soccer team earned their fourth win of the season and outscored Canton-based Ohio Vortex, 10-6. Eddie Hertsenberg, Jeff Hughes and Drew Ducker each added two goals while Kenney Bertz, Matt Breines, Kwame Sarkodie and George Davis IV chipped in one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Craig Salvati earned his fourth consecutive win in the net for the Kings. The Kings’ next home match is Saturday, Dec. 18 against San Diego, 7:35 p.m. at the Cincinnati Gardens.
The Cincinnati Kings (4-0) came away with a 10-6 victory over the Ohio Vortex (1-2) after a strong second half performance. Former Cleveland City Stars midfielder Steve Gillespie would put the Vortex on the board early in the first quarter, but Cincinnati would fight back to bring the score to 1-1. The past two weeks have been quite bizarre for the sport of indoor soccer. Two new leagues, the USL-I League and the ASA, announced they will begin play in 2011. We are only a few weeks into the PASL-Pro season, but there is a great deal to talk about. First and foremost, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the expansion franchises in Louisville, San Diego, and Cleveland/Canton (Ohio). The Louisville Lightning had a sellout for their first home match, which was a near miss against Cincinnati. This was followed up by a 8-3 drubbing of the Detroit Waza in front of another capacity crowd at Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club.
In a recent interview, midfielder Brain Farber told us that he would be returning to Stockton to play for the Cougars. Farber, who spends his time outdoors with the USL’s Portland Timbers, had several other offers to consider before making this decision.
