Allstate Presents Sueño MLS 2012

Today is the day thousands of aspiring young soccer players have been waiting for, as pre-registration opens for Sueño MLS 2012 – presented by Allstate, the premier nationally televised search for the best undiscovered soccer talent in America. Starting this afternoon, Sunday, March 25, at 2:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. CT), hopefuls will be able to register via www.SuenoMLS.com for an opportunity to participate in one of three open

An Ode to Guille

When talking about the greatest members of the Columbus Crew, undoubtedly Guillermo Barros Schelotto will be in the conversation. Not only was Guillermo an ambassador for the Crew and the city of Columbus, but also won the MLS award as the Most Valuable Player in his first full season with the Crew, after a decade of playing with Argentinean giants Boca Juniors. Schelotto was not only a fan favorite, but also a mentor to younger players like Rogers and Lenhart. Schelotto

The Crew Say Goodbye to a Man, a Myth, and a Legend

The loss of the beloved Guille is the loss of an icon, a legend, and one of the Crew’s greatest players.  While I understand that it was a necessary evil, many would have preferred to see GBS finish his playing career in Columbus.  He could have played at an elite level for one year before starting the next chapter of his career in coaching.  I think he had a solid season again this year and would have likely matched this

Rebuilding the Crew: An End of an Era or A Simple Transition?

The last time I saw Brian Carroll was after the missed PK against the Rapids on November 6th.  Always considered to be a leader on and off the field (and a first-class individual), Carroll was the first to head to the Nordecke to show his appreciation for the Crew’s most hardcore supporters.  Many athletes would have sulked to the locker room to pout, but not Carroll.  What I didn’t realize was this was his final moment as part of the Crew organization.

Second half highlights from Columbus

Columbus dominated the second half, creating chances at will, but thanks to sloppy finishing were unable to extend their 1-0 lead. 47th Good control from Stammler in the Crew box, but shoots wildly over the bar 65th Great work from Rogers down Red Bulls right, cuts inside, but fires into the side netting from 6 yards 69th Should have been 2-0, Gaven had a free header from 14 yards, but places it just wide of Red Bulls left had post 74th Robbie Rogers breaks

First half highlights from Columbus

In an entertaining first half, Crew take a deserved 1-0 lead going into half time. 9th Red Bulls Khano Smith scuffed a shot wide from 6 yards, after a good cross down Crew’s left 15th Rogers hits a powerful drive from 15 yards which cannons off Red Bulls crossbar 16th Red Bulls Seth Stammler should have done better from 8 yards, blazing into the side netting with only the keeper to beat 19th Crew flashes a cross into Red Bulls box; lack of movement

Martin Palermo to the Columbus Crew?

The trade of Pat Noonan to the Rapids brings back some old rumors. The Crew now have a little breathing room regarding cap space. Will Palermo finally come to MLS to be reunited with Guillermo Barros Schelotto? We will know soon as his contract expires June 30.  It sounds like he might be interested.  Reputable sources like Sports Illustrated and Soccer America have discussed it.      I hope the league takes notice and brings another legend to America.  Imagine David Beckham facing off
