Dominant Start for UMU Women Mount Union opened up their 2017 campaign with an 8-0 victory over Thiel at Hiram on Saturday. The Purple Raiders opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute by sophomore, Maggie O’Donnell (Avon/Avon) and followed up with another in the eighth minute with a goal by junior, Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia). Mount Union blanked Waynesburg 5-0 Saturday at Mount Union Stadium. The Purple Raiders advanced to 5-2 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-2-2. The Raiders got on the board at the 18:37 mark when senior Gina Wall connected on a through ball from sophomore Taylor Lanese making the score 1-0 heading into halftime. Mount Union’s women’s soccer team defeated Bluffton 5-1 Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at Mount Union Stadium. After the victory the Purple Raiders advance to 4-2 on the season as the Beavers drop to 1-5. The Purple Raiders led 4-1 going into halftime. The first goal went to sophomore Amanda Davies at the 16:53 mark on a touch pass by Kelsey Malenic. Freshman Katie Goedecke followed with a break-away goal at the 22:46 mark after beating the goalie and finding the back of the net. The
Mount Union’s women’s soccer team was handed their first loss as they fell 3-1 to Penn State-Behrend Wednesday night. Both teams entered the game regionally ranked in the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional Rankings. Penn State-Behrend, No. 6 in the regional poll, won its third straight and improved to 5-1 on the season while the No. 9 ranked Purple Raiders stand at 3-1 overall after the loss. Alex Bilka, the Lions’ leading scorer, would put the visitors up 2-0 with goals in the
