The Montreal Impact were crowned USL-1 Champions as they defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Goals for Montreal came from Donatelli, Gjertsen, and Brown while Toure was the lone scorer for Vancouver. Marc Dos Santos deserves a great deal of credit as he did wonders with the team since taking the reins this spring.
David Testo received the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy, while Marc Dos Santos was nominated as a finalist for USL First Division Coach of the Year. Testo received the award as the team’s Most Valuable Player. He played in all 26 matches, logging 2,235 minutes. Testo also registered one goal and one assist and led the team with 38 fouls. The team announced that midfielder Leighton O’Brien had returned home to Tacoma, Washington for personal reasons. The 33-year-old veteran was released from the club. The team also announced that David Testo and Stephen deRoux were selected to the USL-1 All League Second Team. Head Coach Marc Dos Santos will serve a one-game suspension on Thursday. He was ejected from the last match against Charleston.
