A very tough and physical matchup for the Zips ended well after Karina Atkinson scored a stunner in the 99th minute. The Zips continued their success to reach four straight games without a loss. Under the lights for their last non-conference match of the season, the Lady Zips fought hard for 99 minutes to pull out a satisfactory victory. For the Zips, the match got underway fast with their first shot on goal in the 3rd minute off a corner kick.
In their third overtime game of the season, The University of Akron (2-1-2) women’s soccer team played Youngstown State (1-3-1) to a one-all draw on Friday evening at Farmers National Bank Field. Junior Lani Smith provided Akron with their lone goal of the game in the 16th minute, which was assisted by Broadview Heights, Ohio native Sarah Sivic. Junior Lani Smith, a transfer from South Carolina, provided the lone goal for the Akron offense in Friday’s match. A native of Solon, Ohio, Smith is one of five newcomers to UA, and owns two career collegiate goals from her time at USC. Smith’s goal was assisted by fellow newcomer Sarah Sivic.
