Teepen and Broekhuizen Return to the Dutch Lions

Editor February 28, 2014

The Dayton Dutch Lions FC (USL PRO) are proud to announce the return of goalkeeper Sean Teepen and forward Joseph Evan Broekhuizen.

Teepen made one appearance for the Dayton in 2013, playing in front of 5,000 fans in Richmond against the Kickers.

“Sean is a very talented goalkeeper with good presence in goal and has great shot stopping ability,” Dayton Dutch Lions head coach Sid van Druenen remarked.  “He left a very good impression last season and will bring depth to our roster.”

Teepen was a four-time NSCAA All-Region selection, winning four conference titles with the University of Charleston.  He had similar success at the PDL level, winning the Great Lakes regular season championship with the Michigan Bucks.

“I am very excited to be coming back to the Dayton Dutch Lions,” Teepen added. “I signed mid- season last summer due to an injury so I am glad I was able to prove myself and re-sign for the 2014 season.”

Broekhuizen appeared in 13 games for Dayton in 2013, playing 81 minutes and logging one assist.

“Joe has great feet for a big guy and has great headed passes,” van Druenen concluded.  “Joe is at his best in the box and he brings a big presence and a dimension many teams don’t have. He did well for us last year and we are happy to welcome him back.”

The Grand Rapids, MI native was a standout at Calvin College.

“I am very excited to start my second season in Dayton,” Broekhuizen stated.  “I had a lot of fun last year and look forward to growing as a player. This is a strong organization and I think we will be able to prove that moving forward.”

Broekhuizen can be found on Twitter @BabblingBroek and will wear number 23 for the Dutch Lions.
