The CBA and a Future Star

Home/U.S. Soccer Leagues/MLS/The CBA and a Future Star

It has been good news and bad news the past two weeks in Major League Soccer.  Concerns about the CBA have put a big question mark on the 2010 season.  Any chance of a player strike or a lockoutgt by the ownership during a World Cup year could be crippling to the growth of soccer in America.  Do you remember how long it took the sport to recover after the collapse of the NASL? The staff at International Soccer Network is very confident that both sides will do what is in the best interest of professional soccer in our country.  There are great people on both sides of the aisle that share a common passion and love for the beautiful game. A deal can get done.

Better news came with the league’s signing of Luis Gil, often called the seconding coming of Freddy Adu or Jozy Altidore.  Some believe that Gil could be the best domestic player ever.

We were excited to hear that Gil was selected by Kansas City in a weighted lottery.  The possibility of pairing Gil with Teal Bunbury was quite intriguing.  It was not meant to be as the rights to the young star were traded to Real Salt Lake.

It sure will be exciting to see him develop as a player and it is obvious he will be in good hands with Jason Kreis. It is nice to see a player say no to possible opportunities overseas (Arsenal, Real Madrid) and yes to MLS. Keeping Gil in the U.S. just mght be an important date in the history of MLS.
