AFC Cleveland is proud to announce the return of three players from the 2013 NPSL squad. Goalkeeper Anthony Flowers joins midfielders Ty Smith and Tom Beck on the 2014 NPSL squad for the Royals.
Flowers, a 2014 Wright State University commit, comes to Cleveland from New Albany, OH. Flowers broke New Albany HS records for GAA (goals against average), shutouts, and best overall record during his senior season.
“After being primarily on the developmental side of AFC Cleveland in the past season, I am looking forward to being able to further contribute and continue to help the team in order to have a successful and winning season,” Flowers stated.

“Anthony is a talented young keeper who has taken leaps and bounds in his development over the last couple of years,” AFC Cleveland assistant coach Aaron McGuiness remarked. “Hopefully we can help in continuing his development and he can see some more minutes this year.
Smith returns to the Royals with experience from Hiram College and Slippery Rock University.
“I’m excited to be able to return to the team,” Smith added. “I think we underachieved last year and I believe the current squad can get us to the next level.”
The Rocky River, OH native is an experienced NPSL player, having spent time with the Erie Admirals as well.
“We are very happy Ty has re-signed with us,” McGuiness commented. “His commitment and attitude is second to none. He is a versatile player that gives us many options in the midfield and defense.”
Beck, who hails from the Youngstown (OH) area, was a standout for the University of Mount Union. Beck tallied fourteen goals and seven assists for the Purple Raiders in 2013. This would earn him First Team All-OAC honors to go along with the OAC Forward of the Year Award.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play with AFC Cleveland for a second consecutive summer,” Beck concluded. “I’m extremely anxious to get the ball rolling and see what this year’s group of guys can accomplish.”
