On the surface, Jason Garey’s Geauxing Galt is a great “rags to riches” story about a likeable, hard-working everyman that makes it big. You dig a little deeper and you have a story about good vs. evil. Wyatt Bourgeouis, a character in the vein of Horatio Alger, spends his life preparing to take on corrupt politicians like Harry Maddow. Wyatt becomes a self-made billionaire thanks to hard work and determination. But he risks losing it all to Harry, a man who has been
The last time I saw Jason Garey in Columbus, he was wearing the Black & Gold of the Crew. He was finishing up his 5th MLS season and unbeknownst to me, he soon would be plying his trade with the Houston Dynamo. The Dynamo would make it to the 2011 MLS Cup Final, but Garey wouldn’t get another championship win as the Dynamo fell to the star-studded LA Galaxy. Major hip surgery would sideline Garey for nearly 5 months. He would miss out on the start of the

The Columbus Crew got goals from Homegrown Players Aaron Horton and Ben Speas to lift the home team past EPL side Stoke City 2-1 in an international friendly. ISN will be spending the summer covering the biggest European friendlies here in the States. Next up is Stoke v. Crew and then Liverpool v. Tottenham. More announcements to come! Chelsea FC, the recent Champions League winners, are touring the United States in an effort to promote soccer nationally and abroad. The Blues arrived in Seattle without many of their top players. Those not in attendance include Mata, Terry, Malouda, and the recently departed Didier Drogba. Drogba was a key player in Chelsea’s victory
In a close match, the Seattle Sounders FC defeated the Colorado Rapids 2-1 at CenturyLink Field. The Sounders have had a rocky season, but still are strong in the West and are on track to make the playoffs. How far they make it is questionable, especially when considering their current track record. Brian Mullan received boos and distaste from the crowd every time he touched the ball. Mullan was responsible for Steve Zakuani’s broken leg, and the Seattle soccer culture has

I like to make things happen.” Short phrases Hustedt used to describe his style as a player. The former University of Washington standout joined the Quakes after being drafted 25th overall in this winter’s MLS SuperDraft. “I was thrilled when they drafted me,” Hustedt commented. “It has been fun ever since. I haven’t really

Sometimes the good guys win. This certainly was the case as Jed Zayner resumed his MLS career, signing with the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday. The former Crew defender was a fan favorite in Columbus, known for a caring personality and his charitable work in the community. He spent 5 seasons with the Crew, registering 21 starts in 36 appearances, scoring one goal and tallying one assist. Zayner also spent a short time with D.C. United, making 13 appearances after a trade
