Sporting KC Exhausts Dynamo in Playoff Race

The Houston Dynamo sped off for Kansas City looking to pluck three points from its match at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.  Instead, the team spluttered away from the stadium picking thorns out of its side, as Sporting KC stuck three goals to the Dynamo in an exhausting 3-0 defeat. Perhaps Houston needed to prepare better for its trip.  After all, Sporting KC has had a snug grip on its home points this season, having only fallen twice in 14 home games.  Couple this with the

Sounders Send Eastern Conference Leaders Home with Tails between Legs

Last Saturday’s matchup between Eastern Conference leaders, Columbus Crew, and the Green Machine that is the Seattle Sounders was a doozy.  At the end of ninety minutes of play, the Eastern Conference should feel embarrassed, and the West has solidified their dominance in MLS.  The final score: Seattle 6, Columbus 2.  Lamar Neagle had a hat trick on the afternoon (only the second in Sounders FC history, and Seattle became the first team to score four goals in half this

Dynamo Collects More Goose Eggs in Late Road Defeat

Road trips hadn’t been very kind to the Houston Dynamo this season as the team entered Saturday’s match at Vancouver in search of its first road victory over five months into the 2011 campaign. For the league-worst Vancouver Whitecaps, victories were difficult to come by period as the squad had mustered only three thus far in its inaugural MLS season. So when the road-wounded met the battle-broken in cross-conference play, one dog had to have its day. Much to the delight

Clutch Rookie Goal Powers Dynamo over RSL

Texas native Alex Dixon came in as a substitute against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, but there is no substituting the rookie’s impact as he drove home a shot in the waning seconds to power the Houston Dynamo to a 3-2 victory.  Dixon replaced Colin Clark in the 80th minute and put the pedal to the medal to prove to Dynamo Head Coach Dominic Kinnear that he belongs. In the 93rd minute, Dixon earned space for himself at the top

Coaching News and Notes

1.  All of us here in NE Ohio are really excited for Martin Rennie, who was named as the head coach of Vancouver Whitecaps FC last week.  Rennie had great success with the Cleveland City Stars and the Oregon-based Cascade Surge.  This selection came as no surprise to those who hold a great respect for Rennie, including former Cleveland City Stars GM Mark Geissbauer. “He knows what it takes to win and he doesn’t give up until he does so,” Geissbauer

Seattle’s Secondary Pummels Guatemalan Side

In the first leg of the group stages of the CONCACAF tournament, Mike Fucito led the Seattle Sounders to an impressive 4-1 victory over Comunicaciones.  Fucito, who normally struggles to produce goals, had two left footed goals and an assist to Brad Evans on the night.  The Sounders starters were not the norm for this match, but it did not seem to make a difference.  Seattle’s victory becomes even more remarkable when one considers that they were down a man

Galaxy Get Even Better with Keane

The LA Galaxy today agreed to terms with Ireland National Team captain Robbie Keane. Keane, who will join the club from Tottenham Hotspur of England’s Premier League, will officially be added to the club’s roster upon receipt of his P-1 Visa. A proven goalscorer, Keane has scored more than 250 goals for club and country in a career that began in 1997 at the age of just 17 and has seen him become the tenth all-time leading goal scorer in

The Winner is Decided by the Amount of Goals, Not Fouls, Seattle

The Seattle Sounders FC, after missing an early penalty shot, were unable to score on the defensively strong Chivas USA.  Seattle is currently in third place for the Western Conference with a record of 11-5-9.  There were plenty more chances, but as happens all too often, the Seattle attack was unable to find the net.  Kudos to Chivas’ goalie, Luis Michel, had a handful of amazing saves and dives, earning a shutout against Seattle.  Similarly, Kasey Keller was busy punching
