Awards will be voted on by all stakeholders including teams, fans, supporters, and media. The following is a timeline of award announcements along with a brief description of each: Thursday, July 28th – The PUMA Golden Boot will be awarded to the NPSL’s top goalscorer. Only goals scored in the regular season will be used to determine the winner.
Albion SC Pros defeated SoCal SC 3-1 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw in the Southwest Conference NPSL playoffs Saturday night. Albion finished their first year in the NPSL with an undefeated regular season record of 8-0-4, placing them first in their conference. NC Battalion goalkeeper James Stroud is looking for his first NPSL playoff win on Saturday. The NPSL veteran will make his third playoff game appearance on Saturday, his first with the Battalion, who made their NPSL debut this year. Stroud previously played for the San Diego Flash, making the playoffs twice with them. The Fort Worth Vaqueros dropped a fast-paced friendly match 3-0 to Santos Laguna’s U-20 squad at Martin Field on Monday. Although the Vaqueros were unable to put a number on the scoreboard, they enjoyed close chances on two headers in the first half. The Vaqueros’ 2016 NPSL South Central Conference season came to an end on Saturday in Tulsa. The Vaqueros fell 6-0 to the new conference champions in Oklahoma to close out league play. The Athletics (11-1, 33 points in NPSL) claimed the South Central Conference title in three of the past four years. “We fought as hard as we could, but when you are not at full strength it is very difficult to compete with the number one team in the conference,” Vaqueros coach
