KEI: A Special Film about a Special Player

Not every MLS player has a film made about them, but then again not every player is as talented as Sporting Kansas City’s Kei Kamara.  Dave LaMattina and Chad Walker of Copper Pot Pictures put together this short, but powerful documentary about the Sierra Leone striker that has taken MLS by storm. Over 750 people turned out for the initial screening sponsored by Sporting KC and in the process the event raised nearly $2,000 for schools in West Africa.  Connecting

Crew Players Accompany Heroes on Hospital Visit

After a routine morning practice, several Columbus Crew players, including Copley’s own Josh Williams, took time to visit the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. “This is my first time ever doing this,” Williams said. “It’s awesome just to see a child’s face light up when you walk into the room.” Not only were patients treated to the sights of the Black and Gold, but they also met some of Columbus’ finest as Engine 2 firefighters accompanied members of

Johnson Pushes Sounders to Victory

Eddie Johnson scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 89th minute, as Sounders FC defeated Chivas USA, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at CenturyLink Field. The brace gives Johnson 13 goals on the season, the best single-season scoring output in franchise history. The Chivas scored an early goal to put pressure on the Seattle defense to remain strong and on the offense to produce points. Johnson scored a sneaky header from a free kick at the half hour mark. Chivas keeper Dan Kennedy

NASL Announces New Format for 2013

The North American Soccer League (NASL) has announced a change in its regular season competitive format for the 2013 season. Beginning in 2013, the NASL’s regular season will feature two separate and distinct round-robin competitions with the winners of each competition meeting in a single game on the weekend following the conclusion of the second competition. The winner of that match will claim the Soccer Bowl trophy as the NASL’s 2013 champions. The first, or spring, championship will kick off in

The Pelé Sports Fan Ambassador Club – August 2012

Fans come when things are good and disappear when things go bad, but supporters are always there for their club and their sport. They live, breathe, and love their club. You won’t see people switching sides or jumping on a bandwagon; they are too proud and too loyal for that. The idea of a soccer supporter puts a lot of images in a person’s mind. A lot of stereotypes come up, but they are far from reality. Michigan’s Gene Butcher is part of a new

Akron’s Porter on the Move

It should come as no surprise that Caleb Porter was named the next head coach of the Portland Timbers.  A report by the league’s own Simon Borg in early July named Porter as one of the top 5 candidates to replace the fired John Spencer.  When asked about this report, University of Akron officials dismissed the report as nothing more than a rumor. Officials were asked again about the Timbers’ interest on Akron’s media day in early August and

Twice in a Lifetime?

April 19, 2007 is a day that changed the Columbus Crew forever.  It was the day that Guillermo Barros Schelotto signed with the Crew, a day where some serious hardware finally became a reality. Schelotto, arguably the best player in MLS history, joined a Crew squad in need of some star power.  GBS was certainly a star in every sense of the word, a “once in a lifetime” player that would change the fortunes of the club forever.  Schelotto was so good that

Sounders on a Roll

The Seattle Sounders FC climbed to 11-6-7 after defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 at home. Seattle has been red hot recently; their recent slaughter of the Galaxy and their strong game against Chelsea are exciting indicators of Seattle hitting their midseason stride. The addition of Christian Tiffert, a star player from France’s Ligue 1, in place of Alvaro Fernandez (who will be missed) has helped to create some newfound, offensive firepower.  Tiffert is a smart player who, along with Osvaldo Alonso, helps

Seattle Sounders Women Speak Out on New Pro League

The Seattle Sounders Women are extremely proud of our representatives within the U.S. Women’s National Team and would first like to congratulate Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Sydney Leroux on their Olympic gold medals. Recently there have been reports of a new professional women’s soccer league, and the awareness of this development are largely due to the fantastic momentum that Team USA has generated with their gold medal performance in London. The Seattle Sounders Women, coming off an incredibly successful
