On the Pitch with ISN – November 20, 2011

1.  I really question the NCAA’s decision to have tournament matches on MLS Cup Sunday. It is hard for a game like Akron v. SMU to get any attention when it starts at 8 pm ET and the MLS Cup coverage starts at 9pm ET. There should be no NCAA soccer matches on MLS Cup Weekend. 2.  Somebody at U.S. Soccer needs to push for all national team matches to be televised.  Last night’s USWNT match had a record crowd in

1. The rollercoaster that has been Jurgen Klinsmann’s tenure as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team is likely to be defined by the next generation of American footballers. Much of this raw talent is based in Europe and will fall under the watchful eye of U-23 Head Coach Caleb Porter.  There is no question about the fiery Porter’s ability to prepare these players for exciting, attacking soccer.   Watch out for Ipswich Town’s Cody Cropper,  Molde’s Josh Gatt, and

Vortex Can’t Stop the FLO

Detroit WAZA FLO continued their two-game unbeaten streak with a win against the Ohio Vortex at the Taylor Sportsplex Saturday.  The 9–7 victory gave WAZA FLO their third straight win of the season. “Obviously, a great win.  Two real good teams tonight,” said Head Coach Costea Decu.  “It wasn’t our best performance. We didn’t beat them like we did earlier in the season, but I am happy with our efforts and proud of my teammates.” Midfielder Miki Djerisilo scored his team-leading tenth goal to give

Dynamo Powers Past Kansas City for MLS Cup Berth

To say that the Houston Dynamo has been anything less than impressive in the last few months of MLS play would be unreasonable.  To have expected the team to dip below its proven potential when it trekked to Kansas City for the Eastern Conference Final would have been equally as absurd. Gone are any affiliations between mediocrity and the Houston crew.  The Dynamo sent Sporting KC and the sellout crowd of over 20,000 supporters home in disappointment as Houston collected two

Impressive Home Opener for Waza

Detroit WAZA FLO is on a hot streak, crushing the Louisville Lightning in an extremely physical home opener yesterday afternoon at the Taylor Sportsplex with a score of 9-3. “After working through a rocky first period, we came together perfectly,” said  Detroit Head Coach Dominic Scicluna. “We will have to continue to work harder and smarter to stay on top this season.” “Louisville started with a high degree of energy, but we matched that after the first ten minutes and controlled the

Vortex No Match for Waza

After intense preseason training and the acquisition of key veteran players, the PASL’s Detroit WAZA FLO captured the win in their season opener, best described as an 11-3 blowout against the Ohio Vortex. “It started out a bit rocky, but our veterans got this win,” said Head Coach Costea Decu after the game.  “Our team has room for improvement, but we have great depth of talent and we are looking good for this season.” The game was tied 2-2 in the first, but Detroit came alive outscoring the
