A single, unlucky two-minute stretch.
The Vaqueros suffered a brief run of bad play that allowed the defending South Central Conference champions FC Wichita to take a 3-0 victory on Tuesday at Texas Wesleyan University’s Martin Field.
“We made two costly errors in the first 15 minutes and then we spent the rest of the time chasing the game,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said. “I thought we played well at times, created lots of chances hit the bar several times but just couldn’t put it in the net.”
FC Wichita scored a pair of first half goals in the 13th and 14th minutes.
The Vaqueros enjoyed plenty of chances, including a second half ripper that glanced off the top of the FC Wichita crossbar.
FC Wichita netted a late goal in the 85th minute as the Vaqueros were pushing forward in an effort to narrow the gap.
The Vaqueros return to NPSL South Central Conference play at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a home game against first-year club Little Rock.
“Little Rock is a new team in our conference so we don’t know much about them,” Snell said. “Thankfully we came out of this game pretty healthy and will be ready to go at it again.”
