After intense preseason training and the acquisition of key veteran players, the PASL’s Detroit WAZA FLO captured the win in their season opener, best described as an 11-3 blowout against the Ohio Vortex.
“It started out a bit rocky, but our veterans got this win,” said Head Coach Costea Decu after the game. “Our team has room for improvement, but we have great depth of talent and we are looking good for this season.”
The game was tied 2-2 in the first, but Detroit came alive outscoring the Vortex 9-0 for the next three quarters. Ryan Mack led Detroit’s offensive drive with the first two goals. Miki Djerisilo added another two and Head Coach Dominic Scicluna scored a hat trick in the winning effort. Additional goals were scored by Detroit’s Costea Decu, Nelson Diaz, Zack Wilkes, and Ricardo Lopes.
Steve Gillespie, Pete Angelokostopoulos, and Andy Lerei of Ohio each had a goal, but their efforts weren’t enough to compete with Detroit’s defense.
Coming off of last year’s injury, Vito Lonigro earned the win for Detroit between the pipes with 12 saves.
