The U.S. has qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup thanks to a 3-2 victory over Honduras on Saturday. The coming months will be full of exciting moments and lots of decisions for Bob Bradley. It will be interesting to see who is named to the final World Cup roster. Bradley has looked at a lot of players since his hiring and there will be plenty of talent to go around.
It was a busy night as we added pieces to the World Cup “puzzle”. Rival Mexico qualified as well with their 4-1 defeat of El Salvador. Denmark, Germany, Italy, Serbia, and the Ivory Coast will also be in South Africa next summer.
New Zealand is on the verge of qualification with their 0-0 draw with Bahrain. The decisive game will take place on November 14 in Wellington. It would be great to see Crew midfielder Duncan Oughton play in the World Cup as a member of the New Zealand squad. Oughton was part of his country’s squad that participated in the Confederations Cup.
The Columbus Crew clinched the Eastern Conference with a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution, which gives them homefield advantage for the playoffs. They are also a step closer to the Supporters’ Shield.
