When Nobody Was Watching (Review)

Editor October 16, 2016

Having read both autobiographies for Abby Wambach’s and Carli Lloyd in the same week, we can tell you that both are excellent reads.  Both are truly inspiring, real motivational pieces.  Both are honest discussions of great female athletes, gloabal soccer stars.  These two titles are part of an incredible

We thoroughly enjoyed Lloyd’s When Nobody Was Watching: My Hard-Fought Journey to the Top of the Soccer World.  It recaps the brilliant life of one of the world’s greatest players.  It is not without one roller coaster of a ride; Lloyd experienced her share of obstacles and difficulties en route to winning Olympic gold and the Women’s World Cup.

We found Lloyd to be incredibly honest and thoughtful in every regard, sharing both powerful and difficult moments.  It’s beyond a behind-the-scenes look at the national team scene, it’s an intimate look at the life of an amazing women and role model.

Lloyd’s story is not that of a blue chip prospect, a player that went to the peak without adversity.  Her story is ever more inspirational; she overcame dozens of setbacks and came back better and better each time.  You’ll see leagues, competitions, and the national team in a very different light.  Lloyd worked her way up through the youth scene, professional leagues, and the entire national team system.

She spends a lot of time talking about relationships, relationships with her family, teammates, and coaches.  You’ll learn about the key influences in her life and career, most notably James Galanis, Joe Dadura, and Jill Ellis.  You’ll get to know Heather Mitts, Abby Wambach, and Hope Solo among many others.

It’s a great read, one of the best titles in an amazing fall publishing season.  It’s a must-have, a book that should be enjoyed by everyone.  It’s an amazing story of an amazing life, a story that will inspire men, women, and children all over the world.  Her journey and the book are absolutely brilliant.
