The Mount Union women’s soccer team defeated Geneva College 5-3 on Saturday.

Senior Kelsey Malenic scored her second career hat-trick as she netted three goals in the win for the Raiders.

Geneva (4-1) scored the first goal of the game as Kimberly Orihel set up Heidi Mann to put the Golden Tornadoes up 1-0 in the sixth minute.

Mount Union (3-4) responded on its next possession at the 6:31 minute mark as freshman Nicole Lanese  scored the first goal for the Raiders to tie the game at 1-1.

Lanese then scored her second goal of the game in the 28th minute off of a pass from Malenic to give the Raiders their first lead of the game at 2-1.

The Raiders added one more goal in the 39th minute as Malenic netted her first goal of the game off of a pass from Lanese to give Mount Union a 3-1 lead going into the break.

Geneva scored its second goal of the game as Hannah Sleight put in a rebound goal that came off of a shot off of the post to cut the Mount Union lead down to 3-2.

The Raiders struck again in the 79th minute off of the foot of Malenic from a corner from junior Amanda Davies to extend their lead to 4-2.

Malenic then capped off her hat-trick in the 82nd minute as she bent in a shot just inside the box off of a pass from Lanese to go up 5-2.

The Golden Tornadoes added one more goal at the 84:37 minute mark when Mann scored off of a long free kick to cut the Raiders lead down to 5-3.

Mount Union will next host Defiance on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 pm.
