No. 9 Mount Union women’s soccer blanks Marietta 5-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Tuesday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders advance to 8-3 while Marietta falls to 1-10-1 as both teams move to 1-1 in the OAC.
Mount Union got on the board early when senior Erika Druzina scored at the 17:53 mark after placing a ball in the bottom 90 from 25 yards out making the halftime score 1-0.
Mount Union advanced the score to 2-0 when sophomore Carolyn Balzano found the back of the net off a pass from junior Kelsey Malenic.
Malenic would later score herself on a through ball from senior Nicole Moldovan putting the Raiders up 3-0 at the 58:13 mark of the second half.
Sophomore Taylor Lanese had a shot deflected by Marietta goal keeper but was cleaned up by junior Shannon Evans who buried it in the upper 90 making the score 4-0, Mount Union.
Mount Union ended the game 5-0 after freshman Katie Goedecke put away a ball from Evans.
Earning the shutout for the Raiders was senior goalkeeper Maria Favorite making seven saves and finishing her fifth shutout on the season.
Mount Union next travels to Ada Saturday, Oct. 11 to take on Ohio Northern in an OAC matchup.
