Women’s College Soccer: Mount Union Blanks Waynesburg

Mount Union blanked Waynesburg 5-0 Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders advanced to 5-2 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-2-2.

The Raiders got on the board at the 18:37 mark when senior Gina Wall connected on a through ball from sophomore Taylor Lanese making the score 1-0 heading into halftime.

Junior Kelsey Malenic found the back of the net off a crossed ball in the 28th minute of the second half. Freshman Katie Goedecke scored three minutes later on a long shot to put the Raiders up 3-0.

Malenic again found the goal in the 13th minute on a break away to beat the goalie advancing the score to 4-0, Mount Union.

Senior Emily Love scored on a crossed ball from freshman Stephanie Donley leading to the final score of 5-0.

In goal for Mount Union earning the shutout was senior goalkeeper Maria Favorite. Favorite had 5 saves on the night earning her second shutout of the season.

Mount Union remains home to take on Grove City (Pa.) Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4:00 pm at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance.
