The Mount Union women’s soccer team fell to Capital 3-2 in their first Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season.

Capital (5-4, 1-0) scored the winning goal in the 88th minute off of the foot of Allison Mervau to seal the win for the Crusaders.

Capital struck first in the 13th minute of the match on a goal by Claire Quinn set up by a cross by Chloe Brown to give the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead.

The Crusaders scored again in the 23rd minute of the match on a goal by Becca Cartmill to go up 2-0 against the Purple Raiders.

Mount Union (4-6, 0-1) got on the board in the 32nd minute of the match on a goal by sophomore Amy Bobonik off of a corner by junior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary) to cut the Capital lead down to 2-1.

The Raiders came back to tie it up in the 86th minute when senior Kelsey Malenic scored a goal to even the score at 2-2.

Capital then went on to take the lead in the 88th minute on the Mervau goal.

Mount Union next travels to Marietta on Wednesday, October 7 at 4 pm.
