Mount Union’s women’s soccer team was handed their first loss as they fell 3-1 to Penn State-Behrend Wednesday night. Both teams entered the game regionally ranked in the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional Rankings.
Penn State-Behrend, No. 6 in the regional poll, won its third straight and improved to 5-1 on the season while the No. 9 ranked Purple Raiders stand at 3-1 overall after the loss.
Alex Bilka, the Lions’ leading scorer, would put the visitors up 2-0 with goals in the eighth and 12th minutes of play as Behrend led 2-0 at the half.
Freshman Katie Goedecke cut the lead in half when she shot the ball into the upper left corner of the net in the 56th minute.
Sami Pace extended the lead to 3-1 for the Lions, who out-shot the Raiders 13-5 on the night, with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.
Mount Union next plays Saturday, Sept. 13 at 2 pm at Allegheny in Meadville, Pa.
