Mount Union’s women’s soccer team defeated Heidelberg 4-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders advance to 9-5, 2-3 in the OAC, while Heidelberg falls to 3-11-1, 0-5 in the OAC.
Mount Union struck first when junior Kelsey Malenic placed a ball in the back of the net after a scramble in the box at the17:23 mark.
Two minutes later Mount Union advanced the score when Taylor Lanese chipped a ball over the goalie off a deflected shot giving the Raiders the 2-0 lead.
Senior Allison Fouss joined the scoring action when she placed a ball over the goalies head off a pass from Lanese.
Heidelberg got on the board with 10 minutes remaining in the first half with a long shot to the upper bar making the halftime score 3-1, Mount Union.
The second half went scoreless for either team until freshman Katie Goedecke charged the net and beat Heidelberg’s keeper at the 75:07 mark making the Raider lead 4-1.
In goal for the Raiders was senior goalkeeper Maria Favorite making three saves as Mount Union outshot Heidelberg 11-5.
Mount Union next travels to New Concord Tuesday, Oct. 21 to take on Muskingum in an OAC matchup.
