A combined effort from offense and defense led the Mount Union women’s soccer team to a 4-0 shutout over Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
The Purple Raiders (11-5, 4-3 OAC) got off to an early lead when senior Nicole Moldovan received a through ball from junior Kelsey Malenic and beat the keeper four minutes into the game giving Mount Union the early 1-0 lead.
Another through ball from Malenic was placed in the back of the net by freshman Katie Goedecke at the 21:41 mark leading to the first half score of 2-0.
The Raiders again got off to an early start when Malenic scored off a crossed ball from senior Amanda Tamerlano two minutes into the second half giving Mount Union the 3-0 lead.
Moldovan found the net a second time when Malenic crossed a ball into the box to Goedecke who tapped the ball to the senior forward gaining goal number four for the Raiders.
Senior goal keeper Maria Favorite earned her seventh shutout making 9 saves as Mount Union outshot Wilmington (6-11, 0-7 OAC) 17-13.
Mount Union next hosts John Carroll for Senior Night Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 pm at Mount Union Stadium.
