The Mount Union women’s soccer team beat Mt. St. Joseph 2-1 in their home opener Tuesday night.
Mt. St. Joseph (1-1) got on the board early when Stefanie Autenreib found the back of Mount Union’s (1-1) net in the 12th minute of the game. The Purple Raiders had four shots on goal in the first half, but were unable to tally a point.
In the 62nd minute of the second half, Mount Union junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) chipped in a shot over Mt. St. Joseph goalie Michelle Hessling’s head, recording the team’s first point of the season. Less than three minutes later, sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) recorded her first point of the season in the 64th minute of the game, making the score 2-1.
The Raiders’ defense kept Mt. St. Joseph from scoring in the second half; sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Boryka (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview) recorded four saves on the game.
The Raiders’ next game is Friday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. vs. Oswego State (N.Y) in Fredonia (N.Y).
