Women’s Soccer: Mount Union Wins Against Waynesburg (Pa.) in Non-Conference Finale

Editor September 27, 2016

The Mount Union women’s soccer team notched a 3-2 win against Waynesburg (Pa.) at Mount Union Stadium in a non-conference finale Tuesday night.

Waynesburg fell to 3-5-1 on the season after being defeated by the Purple Raiders, who finished their non-conference schedule with 4-5 record.
Sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) scored the first two goals of the night in the 24thand 44th minutes, respectively. Waynesburg’s Sam Nichols tallied one point, cutting the Raiders’ lead in half.
Junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) tallied the team’s third point after fighting to get a shot off in Waynesburg’s box in the second half. Waynesburg again responded when Melanie Byler scored off of a penalty kick, but the Raiders held on to secure the win.

Mount Union plays at Mount Union Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. against Ohio Northern in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
