The Mount Union women’s soccer team beat Oswego State (N.Y.) 3-2 Friday afternoon.
Oswego State (1-1) got on the board in the 11th minute of the game with a recorded goal from Mary Morrison, which came after a corner kick and scuffle in Mount Union’s (2-1) defensive end. Less than three minutes later, Purple Raider freshman Julia Krause (Mantua/Crestwood) tied the game after finding the back of the net from a cross from freshman Lauren Beech (Hanoverton/United Local). The first half ended with the score tied at one.
The Raiders took the lead in the 52nd minute of the game when sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) scored off of a thru ball from junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary).
Mount Union’s lead didn’t last long; Oswego State’s Chloe Lonergan scored off a free kick near the centerline in the 64th minute of the game.
Just ten minutes later, the Raiders again took the lead after a free-kick-turned-goal by senior Taylor Lanese (Parma/Valley Forge). The Raiders were able to hold off Oswego State for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 3-2 win.
