The Mount Union women’s soccer team was defeated by Penn State-Behrend Wednesday evening, 5-0.
Penn State-Behrend’s (3-2) Laura Schaefer recorded a point after taking a free kick just outside of the Purple Raiders’ (2-3) box, which banked off of the goalpost and past junior goalkeeper Paige Freel (Niles/Niles McKinley) in the 35th minute of the game.
The Raiders were unable to tie the game in the first half, leaving the team trailing by one at halftime.
Penn State-Behrend recorded another point in the 58th minute of the game when Jordan Oberlander took a shot from the top of the Raiders’ box and found the back of the net. The assist came from Megan Schwartz.
The Purple Raiders attempted to tally a point in the second half with shots from freshman Maggie O’Donnell (Avon/Avon), sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia), and junior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary), but the team was unsuccessful.
Penn State-Behrend’s Oberlander scored the team’s third goal in the 75th minute. In the 86th and 90th minutes, Amanda Donohue tallied Penn State-Behrend’s fourth and fifth points. Alex Bilka assisted the fourth goal.
The Purple Raiders recorded 11 shots on the night with goalkeeper Freel making seven saves.
The Raiders’ next game is Saturday, Sept. 17 against Franklin (Ind.) in Franklin, Ind. at 7 p.m.
