The Mount Union women’s soccer team fell to Grove City (Pa.) 4-3 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
Rurple Raider (3-5) senior Olivia Evans (Newbury/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) tallied the first point of the game off of a corner kick by senior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary). Balzano assisted the second goal of the game, which was scored by sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia).
The teams went into halftime with the Raiders up by two points.
Lanese notched her second point of the game at the 46:05 mark of the game after receiving a pass from senior Katie Goedecke (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary).
The Raiders held a 3-0 lead until the 49th minute when Grove City’s Krista Heckman scored a goal. Grove City (6-2) tallied two more points in a 20-minute span, tying the Raiders at three and sending the game into overtime.
The game ended when Grove City’s Lindsay Hutton headed the ball into the back of the Raiders’ net after receiving a corner kick from Jordyn White in the second minute of overtime.
The Purple Raiders next play on Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Waynesburg (Pa.) at 8 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
