The Mount Union women’s soccer team beat Heidelberg 2-1 in overtime on Saturday at Heidelberg University.
Heidelberg’s Erica Campbell (5-6-2, 0-3) scored the first goal of the game off of a turnover in the Purple Raider box at the 24:48 mark.
Six minutes into the second half, sophomore Nicole Lanese (Macedonia/Nordonia) evened the score after placing an upper-90 shot past Heidelberg goalie Alexandra Farmer.
The score remained tied 1-1 through regulation, sending the teams into overtime.
Senior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary) placed a shot in the lower corner of Heidelberg’s goal after receiving a pass from Lanese at the top of the box in the 97th minute of play, making the score 2-1 and ending the game.
The Raiders advance to 6-6 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
Mount Union next plays against Marietta on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. in Marietta, Ohio.
