El Paso Locomotive Draws with New Mexico United

El Paso Locomotive ended with a 2-2 draw Wednesday night against New Mexico, maintaining the top position in their group after earning three points on Saturday.  Cases continue to rise in Texas, and especially in El Paso, though local health officials have approved games to continue for the time being.  The Locomotive organization has chosen not to have fans at home games, leaving for an eerie atmosphere with cardboard cutouts of their most loyal supporters, no ball boys, and taped

Uncomfortable Conversations: Racism in the USA

Only days before the 2020 USL Championship season was set to begin, the pandemic hit and everyone went into lockdown.  Sports, entertainment, and sadly most jobs were immediately halted.  Our way of life was changed in a matter of days, due to the power and danger of a microscopic virus that would kill thousands.  Our sense of normalcy had disappeared. Fast-forward a couple of months; on top of unemployment, uncertainty of our food security and healthcare, we were faced with yet

Sebastian Velasquez’s Journey from El Paso to Miami

Following weeks of speculation over his possible return to El Paso Locomotive FC, news was confirmed Wednesday that midfielder Sebastian Velasquez has signed with The Miami FC.  The Colombian took to Twitter last week releasing a statement after speculation had been at a fever pitch.  He had been silent for weeks while the fans in El Paso, and elsewhere waited anxiously for news. Miami FC released the following statement announcing the news: “Sebastián is a player that has been on our

The whistle blew in Salt Lake City last month to wrap the inaugural season for the El Paso Locomotive FC.  The expansion team had reached the semifinals, facing the highest point of any other expansion team this season, far surpassing the initial goal of simply making the playoffs.  The season was something to celebrate and cheer with pride after a traumatic mass shooting had rocked the community only months before. After a dramatic win on the road in Sacramento to earn

El Paso Locomotive FC Reach Conference Finals in Historic Playoff Run

The near sellout crowd at Southwest University Park jumped to their feet in jubilation Saturday night as the final whistle blew, sending the home team to its first Western Conference Finals in its inaugural season.  El Paso Locomotive FC had shut out Sacramento Republic FC 3-0 to continue its historic track in the USL Championship. The expansion team is the third in league history to reach the conference finals in their bid to bring hardware back to the Sun City. El Paso

Sebastian Velasquez Finds Stride Again with El Paso Locomotive FC

Midfielder Sebastian Velasquez looked up at the Fresno FC goalkeeper ready to shoot a penalty kick in the final minutes of the first playoff match for El Paso.  A tied game and a chance for an upset was a spot Velasquez knew well.  In 2013, in his second season in Major League Soccer, he faced a penalty kick for a chance to win the MLS Cup for Real Salt Lake.  He missed. Velasquez had grown by leaps and bounds following that

El Paso Locomotive FC Ends Nine-Game Unbeaten Streak, Losing to Las Vegas Lights FC at Home
